Professor Clyde Harding Award for Outstanding Scholarship in English and Communications
The Ed Flagg and M. Cornelius Trayes Award is given for excellence in journalistic writing, editing and photography, and selection is based on published work in campus and other publications. Recipients are selected by the chair of the English Department on the recommendation of faculty. In addition, income from a fund created by friends and family, including the estate of Ruth Hall Harding, provides Clyde Harding scholarship assistance for students pursuing the English concentration or the communications program. The award is available to juniors and seniors who maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5.

The Commuter Student Association cash award is given to a non-resident student in his or her last year of attendance at Albright College who is in good academic standing, and who, through excellence of character and active participation, has made the most worthy contribution to the Commuter Student Association. The Josephine Raeppel annual Phi Delta Sigma Alumnae sorority cash award goes to a senior library assistant, honoring Dr. Josephine Raeppel.

Evelyn Boquist Kemp & Esther Boquist Strauch Memorial Award
This award was established in memory of Jean Tshundy’s aunts, Evelyn Boquist Kemp and Esther Boquist Strauch, whose parents emigrated from Uppsala, Sweden to the United States through Ellis Island in the late 1800s. Their generosity makes it possible for Donald and Jean Tshundy to fund an award on behalf of their daughter-in-law, Marilou (Holland) Tshundy, who graduated from Albright College in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree in social welfare. This award is given to a junior or senior majoring in social welfare, social work, sociology or any other area in the social sciences, who maintains a 3.0 grade point average.

Ashley Adams ’05 Study Abroad Scholarship Award
In the Spring of 2008, Albright’s Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures established the Ashley Adams Study Abroad Memorial Scholarship in honor of a promising Albright alumna with co-concentrations in Spanish and political science. Ashley Adams, who graduated summa cum laude in 2005, was passionate about defending the rights of all and learning about other peoples. During her college years, she traveled to the Dominican Republic to participate in a three-week interim experiential learning course. Founder and President of Albright College’s Society for Human Rights, her goal was to become a human rights lawyer. Adams was passionate about life, with a fire in her soul that pushed her to attain any goal she set for herself. The recipients of this scholarship embody Adams’s passion, fire and motivation in pursuit of their goals to experience another language and culture.

The annual income for the Leonard Vandriel Memorial Award is divided equally between two juniors who have demonstrated loyalty and leadership as members of the Albright College food service student staff during their freshman, sophomore and junior years.

Philip A. Eyrich Memorial Award
Spanish Prize
Established by a bequest from Franklin R. Joseph ’57, the endowed Franklin Joseph Commencement Award provides cash to a graduating senior of Albright College receiving a bachelor’s degree in sociology with strong academic accomplishment. Recipients of this award are selected by the chair of the Sociology Department in consultation with faculty. The Philip A. Eyrich Memorial Award is resented by the Political Science Department of Albright College in recognition of Professor Eyrich’s outstanding contributions as a teacher and college leader, this award goes to a senior political science concentrator who has demonstrated interest, achievement and commitment towards international understanding and peace. The Spanish cash prize is given to an outstanding student who is studying Spanish at an advanced level.

American Institute of Chemists for Biochemistry Award
The Alpha Sigma Phi Award in Memory of Chris Anthony ’03 and Andrew Snitzer is awarded to one male and one female senior who best exemplify the qualities of an Alpha Sigma Phi in their daily lives. “As a tribute to our brothers who have passed away, we recognize seniors who have demonstrated the ideals for which our brotherhood stands. Our brotherhood values the importance of scholarship, character, leadership and service.” The recipients are chosen based on their academic achievement and involvement in the Albright community. The American Institute of Chemists for Biochemistry Award honors seniors majoring in chemistry, chemical engineering or biochemistry and is given in recognition of a demonstrated ability, leadership and professional promise. Candidates are nominated and chosen by the chemistry and biochemistry faculty.

This cash award is given to the most outstanding member of Albright Improv. Nominations are submitted by members of the Albright Improv Executive Board to the faculty advisor, who makes the final award determination. The recipient exemplifies what it means to be a great improviser – onstage and off. He or she is giving, supportive, attentive, committed … and probably pretty darn funny, too.

Dr. Morgan S. Heller Memorial Chemistry Award
SGA Graduating Senior Award
Sponsored by the American Chemical Society’s Division of Organic Chemistry, the Undergraduate Award in Organic Chemistry is intended to recognize senior students who display a significant aptitude for organic chemistry and encourage further interest in the field. The department of chemistry and biochemistry selects a top graduating senior majoring in either chemistry or biochemistry who has demonstrated excellence in organic chemistry based on a combination of research experience, coursework and a desire to pursue a career in chemistry. The Dr. Morgan S. Heller Memorial Chemistry prize, given in memory of Professor Morgan S. Heller, is awarded to a deserving senior concentrating in chemistry or biochemistry who demonstrates excellence in both academics and character. Preference is given to a student who plans to continue studies in one of these disciplines at the graduate level. The SGA award is given to senior Student Government Association members for their contribution to the association and to college life.

Walling Leach Memorial Prize
The Natalie Olson Memorial Award is given to a Resident Assistant for his or her outstanding contributions to resident life at Albright College. It is in memory of Natalie Olson ’85, who inspired the Albright community with her vivacious personality, gentle strength of character and enthusiastic commitment to serve and excel. The Walling Leach Memorial Prize goes to a senior student who has excelled in theatre and who plans to continue theatre studies in graduate school and/or enter theatre as a profession.

The Alpha Sigma Phi Award in Memory of Chris Anthony ’03 and Andrew Snitzer is awarded to one male and one female senior who best exemplify the qualities of an Alpha Sigma Phi in their daily lives. “As a tribute to our brothers who have passed away, we recognize seniors who have demonstrated the ideals for which our brotherhood stands. Biology Department Award
The Cyrus Beekey Memorial Award is given to a senior who has demonstrated outstanding ability either in biology or as a premedical student. Established by Albright biology faculty, the Biology Department Award cash award is given to a student majoring in biology who does not intend to pursue a medical or para-medical career. The student should be in good standing with the department, show academic promise and anticipate graduate work in the biological sciences.

Franklin Joseph Commencement Award
The Ella M. Schaeffer award is given to senior students for outstanding talent and leadership in music. The endowed Franklin Joseph Commencement Award, established by a bequest from Franklin R. Joseph ’57, provides cash to a graduating senior of Albright College receiving a bachelor’s degree in sociology with strong academic accomplishment. Recipients of this award are selected by the chair of the Sociology Department in consultation with faculty.

Income from a fund created by friends and family, including the estate of Ruth Hall Harding, provides scholarship assistance for students pursuing the English concentration or the Communications Program. Thomas H. Gerstley Memorial Award
The psychology award is given to a student who, through exemplary service to faculty and students, supports the Psychology Department in providing a quality academic experience. The Rose Sack Social Work cash award is given to a student majoring in child and family studies who has shown unusual promise for effective work in human services, who has demonstrated significant interest in the welfare of parents and children and who has the interest and potential to positively influence the lives of others. In memory of Thomas H. Gerstley ’82, the Thomas H. Gerstley Memorial Award is given to one or more seniors majoring in a psychology program, demonstrating great professional promise, and intending to pursue a graduate degree in clinical neuropsychology, clinical psychology, or counseling psychology. It is designated that the individuals, selected by the Psychology Department faculty, use the proceeds of the award to satisfy some of the costs of first-year graduate study.

Ashley Adams ’05 Study Abroad Scholarship Award
In the Spring of 2008, Albright’s Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures established the Ashley Adams Study Abroad Memorial Scholarship in honor of a promising Albright alumna with co-concentrations in Spanish and political science. Ashley Adams, who graduated summa cum laude in 2005, was passionate about defending the rights of all and learning about other peoples. During her college years, she traveled to the Dominican Republic to participate in a three-week interim experiential learning course. Founder and President of Albright College’s Society for Human Rights, her goal was to become a human rights lawyer. Adams was passionate about life, with a fire in her soul that pushed her to attain any goal she set for herself. The recipients of this scholarship embody Adams’s passion, fire and motivation in pursuit of their goals to experience another language and culture.
