Albright College senior Kristina Goshorn, of Gettysburg, Pa., is the first recipient of the Brogan Scholars Endowed Internship, awarded to exceptional students each year to complete an unpaid policy or government related internship in Washington, D.C., or a suitable agency/community organization in another location. The Spanish and international relations major will do an internship in Washington, D.C. this summer.
Named in honor of Albright Professor Tom Brogan, who retired in 2013, the scholarship was created by several of Brogan’s former students who wanted to honor him in a way that was fitting for his passion and devotion to students. A political science professor, Brogan’s goal as an educator was to prepare students for the realities of careers in politics, government, law, education and public service. To do this he encouraged all students to engage in the real world. The Brogan Scholars Endowed Internship is for credited internships that can take place in any semester, and they are open to all students regardless of major.
Goshorn, whose interests include human rights, global health, immigration policies, the environment and prevalent issues within the Latino community, is currently conducting an internship search with the assistance of Albright Board of Trustee member John P. McAllister, managing partner with McAllister & Quinn in Washington, D.C., and a 1994 Albright graduate.
Karen Evans, assistant dean of experiential learning and director of career development, said Goshorn is a deserving recipient. “She wrote an excellent essay regarding her career goals and how she wants to use her education to expand human rights, and her faculty recommendation letter was very strong,” said Evans.
Goshorn is honored to be the first recipient and excited to gain on-the-job experience this summer. “I am beyond thankful for this award and for those who have helped me achieve this. I couldn’t do it without Albright,” she said.
