Albright adds animation co-major

Albright College has added a co-major in animation to its full slate of undergraduate majors and minors. Students will learn storyboarding, 2D and 3D computer graphic design, motion graphics, video production and more, on their way toward innovative careers in film, television, gaming and marketing.

According to the Bureau of Labor statistics, employment for special effects artists and animators is projected to grow 8% over the next 10 years (faster than average for all occupations). Already a $400 billion dollar industry, animation is expected to grow over the next decade, surpassing 587 billion dollars by 2030.

Students interested in animation and multimedia will personalize their Albright College degree by combining traditional and digital artistic skill work with a co-major in a second area, such as game and simulation development, theatre, business, or music production.

Nearly half of Albright students take advantage of the college’s distinctive co-majors, which enable students to cross or combine different programs, without taking longer to graduate.

Artistically-minded high school students are encouraged to submit portfolios and apply for Albright College Talent Awards in the areas of vocal and instrumental music, as well as creative writing, journalism, electronic digital instrument, music business, arts administration, theatre, visual and digital art, fashion and costume design.

“The arts have always been strong at Albright, and this new co-major offers our creative students a new path toward helping others visualize what’s in their hearts and minds,” said Brian Glaze, MFA, associate professor and chair of art and art history. “We can’t wait to see their images and special effects in video games, and across television, movies and other media.”
