The Albright College community gathered on December 3rd to celebrate the unveiling of the presidential portrait of Lex O. McMillan III, Ph.D., President Emeritus. The event brought together alumni, faculty, staff, trustees, and friends for an evening filled with reflection, gratitude, and pride in the leadership that continues to guide Albright.
The program, hosted by Sean and Kat Crossley ‘11, featured remarks from Kathy Cafoncelli ‘99, Blake Tobias ‘17, Chris Kraras ‘69, and Karen Rightmire ‘69. Each speaker offered thoughtful reflections on President McMillan’s steady vision and his deep commitment to Albright’s mission. Their stories highlighted a leader who believed in the promise of students, the power of education, and the importance of community partnership.

During his remarks, President McMillan shared that Albright has always chosen to the attitude of “yes we can”. That spirit of possibility helped carry Albright from periods of challenge into seasons of transformation and renewal. Dr. McMillan said he is seeing that same sense of excitement in Albright today and shared his confidence in President Debra M. Townsley’s leadership.

His message resonated with the attendees as a reflection of Albright’s long history of perseverance. Albright has never been defined by what it lacked, but by the people who believed in what it could become. The unveiling of his portrait served as a visual symbol of that belief, honoring a president who helped guide Albright through meaningful change and who encouraged the community to embrace opportunity with confidence.
As the program moved toward the portrait unveiling, Dr. Townsley offered her own reflections, sharing her appreciation for the thoughtful conversations she has had with President McMillan since stepping into her role. She spoke with genuine warmth about the wisdom he has shared, the history he has helped illuminate, and the steady encouragement he has shown during this important chapter for Albright.

It was a meaningful celebration of leadership and legacy, and a joyful affirmation that Albright is moving into its next chapter with steady resolve and an inspired vision for the future.
